KPCC/LAist promised during the election that they would not stop paying attention to voters’ concerns once the ballots were counted. Now they’re asking Angelenos to fill out a 5-minute survey to let them know what feels most urgent as Bass takes office. The responses will help KPCC/LAist set the agenda for their reporting in the year ahead and help them hold the new mayor and city council accountable to top concerns. They’ll also share the survey results widely, including with everyone who responded and with organizations such as CALÓ NEWS.

Latino Media Collaborative hosts Latino Media Summit 2022 in LA, launches CALÓ NEWS website
The Latino Media Collaborative hosted the organization’s inaugural Latino Media Summit on September 22 in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes, a Mexican-American museum and cultural center, was home to the summit and the launch of the CALÓ NEWS website. CALÓ NEWS is a site dedicated to the coverage of Latinos, written for English-speaking audiences in LA and California. It is also a news initiative of LMC, which began 25 weeks ago as a weekly newsletter.

ADRIANA CABRERA, Grew up in South LA, now running to represent District 9
Adriana Cabrera said that she began organizing and getting involved in her South LA community as a 12-year-old after losing a boyfriend, cousin, neighbors and classmates to gang violence. In addition, she believes that her experiences sharing a one-bedroom with family, being a first-generation college graduate and surviving “extreme poverty” make her an ideal candidate to serve the neighbors she grew up with. “Me running has nothing to do with me and everything to do with my community,” she said. “It means the world to me that young people believe in me.”
LA mayoral candidates participate in Latino forum
Only 175 days until the City of Los Angeles holds a general election for mayor and last night four of the 12 in-ballot mayoral candidates participated in the “Latino Equity Now: Mayoral Candidate Forum,” hosted by the L.A. Latino Equity and Diversity Initiative (LALEADI). The forum took place at Plaza de la Raza, a cultural center in Lincoln Park, and provided candidates an opportunity to share their plans to address current issues and challenges impacting the Latino community.
