A Turkey Giveaway in Boyle Heights helps Angelinos this holiday season

L.A. County’s food insecurity is not much different from that of the Golden State’s. A study published in September of this year by USC Dornsife found that 30% of Los Angeles County residents are faced with food insecurity, a 6% increase from the previous year. Last Saturday, November 18th, the Weingart East Los Angeles YMCA, a nonprofit organization with approximately 25 additional YMCA sister branches offered low-income families financial assistance with its 9th annual “Fiesta para La Comunidad” in the community of Boyle Heights.

Galán, a media entrepreneur, self-made financial guru and New York Times bestselling author, now teaches financial literacy through her new bilingual podcast called “Money Maker/Mi Mundo Rico.” The podcast was launched in March and is expected to produce 100 episodes through the Money News Network (MNN) website. The podcast is available on Spotify and Apple Music. Episodes are released on Wednesdays and Fridays. Listeners are treated to content related to various topics, such as business advice, goal-oriented lessons and personal stories from special guests.

LA METRO fare hike will harm Latinos community activists warn

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority introduced a new plan that would restructure LA Metro fares. The Latino community is the largest ethnic group, representing 58% of LA Metro riders, in comparison to Black/African Americans representing 14% of riders, followed by 12% who are white and Latino organizers say the increases will harm the community.
