A Public Voices Fellow with The OpEd Project, Erica Eva Colmenares is an assistant professor and coordinator of the Liberal Studies program at San José State University. She received her Ed.D. in Curriculum Studies from Teachers College, Columbia University. Prior to her doctoral studies, Erica was an elementary school teacher for numerous years. Her research interests include preservice teacher education, learning to teach for social justice, and theories of affect. Her current research involves exploring the affective realms of social justice-oriented teacher education programs. Her work has appeared in Journal of Professional Development in Education, Journal of Educational Supervision, and Education Policy Analysis Archives.
